Autumn abounds at Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival

Last weekend, more than 40,000 people flocked to the remote town of Hartsburg, Missouri- generally home to a mere 108 residents- for the 20th annual Pumpkin Festival. For two days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the main streets of Hartsburg were lined with booths featuring a multitude of crafts, autumn decorations, baked goods and concessions. Among other goods, desserts were fried at the Old Thyme Funnel Cake booth, pumpkins were selected from the U-pick Pumpkin Patch, and crafts and jewelry of various sorts were sold at Kathy’s Krafts. Additionally, a corn maze was designed on the outskirts of the festival, offering a short respite from the rest of the activities for families, kids and the occasional group of surly college students.
